Internal Reference Material for Quality Control

To meet requirement 7.7.1 of ISO/IEC 17025, laboratories can implement internal quality control of their operations using control charts (see ISO 7870 series) on QCRMs (internal quality control reference materials, see ISO Guide 80). For more details, see What is a QCRM

Using QCRMs (Certified Reference Materials, see ISO Guide 30 and ISO 33405) for this purpose is expensive and, in addition, it is difficult in this case to define alert limits for the corresponding control charts.

Thanks to the CILs (inter-laboratory comparisons) it organises, CompaLab has access to samples whose characteristics are known with precision (averages, repeatability and reproducibility standard deviations). For more details, see What is a Compalab QCRM

Using these samples as QCRMs not only makes it possible to monitor the drift of the test process, but also to have relevant limits for monitoring laboratory bias, repeatability and uncertainty.

CompaLab has developed a multiple control chart file for all these monitoring purposes. The file also makes it possible to :

Break down the laboratory's overall variance into variances linked to operators and equipment and thus identify the main causes of any deviations;

Check the effectiveness of the corrective actions implemented by the laboratory;

Calculate the bias, repeatability and uncertainty of the laboratory on the basis of the repeated tests carried out for the control chart.
